Menygwacon

(pronounced meh-NIG'-wuh-kon)

Michelle and Eric's New Years Gamefest Without A COol Name

Menygwacon is over.

Menygwacon is an annual gathering for food, fun, and games, centered around the weekend of New Years Eve.

The 7th annual Menygwacon will run from noon Friday 30 December 2011 through 8pm Monday 2 January 2012 at the luxurious Casa del Hymowitz, conveniently located off US-1 in Elkridge, Maryland. Menygwacon is free of charge and open to the public.

Menygwacon,
Enigma on
Which I ponder,
Gamefest wonder.

Fun for New Year's, me and you,
Electrifying games we'll do.

Will I lose my train of thought,
Build, trade, settle (maybe not)?

Bonus tiles and chips, you see,
Point the way to victory.

While four days dawn,
With cards fresh-drawn,
Let's carry on!
MENYGWACON!
--Helen Powell

Games

The list of games that we own can be found here. If carrying space is an issue, these are games that you probably don't need to bring with you. Please note that a small number of these games are not stored at the house, and won't be available.

If there is a game you really want to play, and it isn't on our list, you can add it here. Conversely, if you own a game that is on this list, and you can bring it with you to Menygwacon, please mark the game.

This is a very rudimentary system. It doesn't have any mechanism for dates or anything. Maybe that will improve soon.

Kristina Lynch wants to play Last Night on Earth.  Kristina Lynch will bring it.

Meals

Menygwacon is open to all comers without charge. However, Menygwacon and GCOM-Elkridge regulars are requested to assist in preparing and/or providing meals. Please sign up here for any meal(s) you are willing to prepare.

Breakfast is primarily for those crashing at Casa del Hymowitz. Breakfast will end promptly at 11am so that lunch can be prepared.

For your shopping convenience, Menygwacon is a few blocks from a Dunkin Donuts, a supermarket, and a Rite Aid; about a mile from a 7-11; and a couple of miles from a Giant.

If you prefer, you can bring some snacks or sodas, or you can opt to contribute monetarily to a petty-cash fund that we use for assisting in purchasing food, paper plates, and such. You can give the money directly to Michelle or Eric, or you can donate anonymously in the "Donation" cup.

Again, remember, there is no charge or obligation to contribute if you attend Menygwacon, but we sincerely appreciate it.

If you do not wish to join us for meals, there are a number of restaurants and fast-food options along US-1 in the area around Menygwacon, including Chinese, Italian, Quiznos, Subway, Dunkin' Donuts, McDonalds, Taco Bell, KFC, and Burger King.

Crash Space

There is usually crash space available at Menygwacon.

The areas listed below are available on a mostly first-come-first-serve basis. If you're not picky, there is also random floor space to be had.

Remember that Menygwacon is home to 3 cats. If you are sleeping in an "open area", on the floor, or in a room but with the door open, you may be sleeping with a cat for part or all of the night.

Michelle and Eric reserve the right to adjust your accommodations at any time.

Hotels

If you cannot or do not wish to stay at Menygwacon, there are quite a few hotels in the area. Menygwacon is conveniently located just off US-1 between MD-100 and I-195. Your favorite travel site should be able to find hotels in or near Elkridge, MD. We are also close to Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI) which has many hotels within a short driving distance. We are about 20 minutes from Columbia, MD and from the southern part of Baltimore.

There are a number of small non-chain hotels and motels along US-1. We have no specific knowledge or experience with most of them, but they appear to be the kind of hotels that have "hourly rates," if you catch the drift. We strongly recommend against the Econo Lodge on US-1 in Elkridge.

The closest "corporate" hotel is the Best Western Baltimore-Washington Airport. It is down US-1 a block south of MD-100, roughly 2.5 miles from Menygwacon.

We also liked the Red Roof Inn just off MD-100, roughly 3.5 miles from Menygwacon in nearby Hanover, MD. It's just off the highway, yet on a quiet side street just outside a business park. There is a Ramada in the same business park.
